Energy Systems Modeling Understanding complete energy systems is critical for rationally assessing and evaluating alternatives. Although an energy conversion technology may appear attractive when examined in isolation, the systemic linkages resulting from its use may be otherwise. Renewable energy sources can have this characteristic if they are not appropriately linked to our existing energy systems. Temporal variations, unpredictability of the resource, and relatively low energy densities, make the use of renewable resources challenging when large-scale penetration is desired. Currently, the Ensys lab is modeling renewable energy technologies and novel hydrogen production systems.
